A book trailer on Skim (Blog #7)
Hey y'all, so I read the graphic novel Skim by Mariko and Jillian Tamaki. Skim was overall a really good and fast read. I'd highly recommend it to someone who wants to get into graphic novels, even though there can be a few triggers throughout the reading.
Below this you will find a short book trailer I composed to see if the book is anything that would interest you. I covered up any potential spoilers with text so there's that lmao...
Also, if you would like to use the program, Biteable, feel free! It's free to use
I found making a book trailer to be quite difficult. It was really hard to make the book sound interesting and compelling without giving any spoilers. It took me longer than I thought it would to create it because of that. I tried using stock images, but I felt like it didn't have the same effect as if I used the images from the novel. I'd say my favorite thing about creating this was finding images that conveyed what I wanted to say without spoiling or ruining the book. It proved to be a challenge, but in the end I think I did a standup job at it. The way I handled it was I came up with a few phrases to say, then I skimmed through the novel to find a panel that worked with what I wanted to say, and finally I searched for the panel in an online format in order to put it in the trailer. It was a long process, but worked out in the end.
Sadly, the program I used made it harder for audio to enhance the trailer. I wanted to change songs midway though, but the program would not allow it. Beggars can't be choosers I guess!
Overall, the point of a book trailer is to influence people to read the book. I hope my trailer influenced you to read this good ole piece of literature. If not, your loss.
I found out early on that creativity requires lots of effort and time. This is spectacular! You deserve lots of recognition for the amount of time you put into it and the struggle to find the right images and audio while respecting media appropriation. - Jalousy
ReplyDeleteYou used the images from the book and that was really cool, as the reader than has more insight into the book itself. Also, you totally nailed 'not giving the plot away while being alluring vibe' so props to that! Alyssa
ReplyDeleteDylan, your book trailer builds intrigue surrounding Kim. Even though the visual style may suggest Manga, you make Kim and her high school drama very local and relevant to other teen readers.
ReplyDeleteHi Dylan! I like that your book trailer didn't reveal too much about your book so that it makes the audience want to find out more! I sometimes find it hard to keep myself from adding too much detail and spoiling the plot, but you really found that balance here!
ReplyDeleteHi Dylan,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your book trailer and I usually don't care for them. I feel like a lot of people tend to make them too long so you lose interest halfway through. I do think you added just enough to intrigue me without really revealing too much and thought the phrases and images worked really well together, nice work!
Hi Dylan! I think you did a really good job of introducing Skim without spoiling the details. I also read Skim for #6. I really liked what you did for the trailer with the images directly from the book because the graphics are a huge component of the novel as a whole. -Krista
